Denise Horner Walks with Winnie

Having walked and lived on Dartmoor for over 30 years, with at one point living behind the Warren House Inn: one of my favourite pastimes has been walking with my dogs (there have been many), exploring new walks and enjoying the outdoors. I would hate to think how many steps we have done!

Walks with Winnie started with 'Okelinks' magazine Editor, Jane Honey, asking me, in 2016, to write walks with Winnie, my Working Cocker, they became a regular feature. I would walk the walk, draw a map and write the descriptions for the route with photos along the way. Winnie would give the walk a one, two or three paw rating depending on how difficult the walk was! So much so that the idea of the book developed and then walk cards too.

We have a variety of 12 walks around Westdevon, including walks around Fernworthy and Meldon Reservoirs, Castle Drogo, Cosdon Beacon and more. The walks have been walked and written by me, and beautifully illustrated by Sara Nunan. As well as the book, we now have a set of 12 cards, a card for each walk, so you no longer have to take the book out on the walks, only the card for the walk you are doing. We are now walking the walks for book 2!

Sadly our precious Winnie is no longer with us, it was a very sudden end, but her memories and photos live on.. Scooby and Chizel with be walking the walks in her paw steps.
