Ann Bruford

My designs exhibit my fascination with texture and a love of working materials by hand, resulting in dramatic jewellery inspired by the natural forms of the countryside and seashore of East Devon.
I undertake a carefully considered design process, practising laborious hand fabrication and finishing techniques, keeping a close eye on sourcing materials responsibly, as well as minimising waste. While I primarily work in silver and gold, using non-precious materials such as copper has allowed me to create larger pieces that can incorporate a wider and bolder range of colours, two of which have been used as illustrations in Mark Runfola‘s 2014 book ‘Metal Patination Techniques for Jewelers and Metalsmiths’ (US-Interweave, UK-Thames & Hudson).
I am a member of MAKE South West (formerly Devon Guild of Craftsmen), a selected member of Find a Maker, and the Association of Contemporary Jewellery. I am currently undertaking an MA degree at the Arts University Plymouth, researching glass and ceramics to inform my practice.
